Day 6

For the most part, a day of driving.  We spent last night in Jackson, Wyoming at the Rustic Inn.  The Inn had a cabin look and a wonderful buffet breakfast.  But after debating about spending the day shopping or moving on to new territory, we decided to keep going.  It was a cold, rainy, snowy day.  We had contemplated going back to Old Faithful and seeing the geysers again.  But thankfully we had decided against that as part of the road to Old Faithful was closed today due to snow!

We drove through the Teton Pass, with a 10% grade, in so much snow we were concerned they would close that road also!  Karsten just kept saying "I love snow".  However, the twists and turns of the pass didn't agree with her today even with the sea bands!

After hitting the Visitors' Center in Jackson (and the National Parks out here have THE MOST INCREDIBLE visitor centers.  This one was huge and had elk, wolf, bear, moose, etc. mounts in a life-like setting, just beautiful.) we began our trek on the west side of the Tetons.  There were some fantastic paintings hanging a the entry by artist Greg McHuron.  You can seen his work at www.mchuronstudio.com, but the site does not do his work justice!

The weather was not conducive for seeing mountain peaks today so we just kept going.  We stopped in West Yellowstone at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center.  This is a home for grizzly and wolf who are unable to be returned to the wild for whatever reason.  We saw Sam and Illie, brother and sister grizzlies, that weigh in at 800 & 900 pounds!  There will be some videos on FB later!  We also saw some of the most beautiful wolves.  I liked this one.

My favorite Wolf

There was just something regal and majestical about him.  After touring the site in the rain and snow, we continued toward Bozeman, Montana.  The land here seems to go on forever.
Land Goes on Forever

Bozeman seems to be all new.  The buildings are "rustic" looking but fairly new.  Much of their shopping areas resemble Jefferson Pointe (for those of you in the Fort reading this).  There was a billboard advertising roofing and the guy in the pic was bald and wearing a shirt and tie.  Not exactly my stereotypical view of Montana.  I would have pictured him with a cowboy hat and jean jacket or flannel shirt!

After some diligent searching, Rick found us a wonderful place to stay.  We are at the C'mon Inn.  Yes, the name sounds a bit hokey.  But the facility is really great.  It is a huge, 3 floor structure with the rooms surrounding a pool area that has massive boulders with wildlife standing on them, five hot tubs, and the wall at the end of the pool is all windows that face the mountains.  Each room has a patio table outside the door in the pool area.

Bears at the Discovery Center Museum

Tomorrow we plan to stay in town and do some museums and shopping.  We will be here another night.
